Seville is making history as the first city in Spain to host the 48th Military Fencing World Championship, currently underway from 16 to 20 September 2025 at the Palacio de Deportes de San Pablo.
The event sees 250 military-athletes from 17 countries across three continents competing, under the motto “Friendship Through Sport.”
Organized by the Spanish Air and Space Force with the support of the International Military Sports Council (CISM), and in collaboration with the Seville City Council, the championship was officially presented at the Plaza de San Francisco. Speakers included Silvia Pozo, the City’s Delegate of Sports, and Lieutenant General Fernando Torres San José, Head of Personnel Command of the Air and Space Force.
Notable Firsts
First time in Spain the Military Fencing World Championship is held on Spanish soil.
A groundbreaking exhibition of military wheelchair fencing involving Spanish military fencers will be held on 20 September, marking the first such demonstration in CISM’s history.
Seville’s Role & Significance
Silvia Pozo emphasized how the values promoted by fencing—discipline, respect, and inclusion—align with Seville’s identity as a major sports capital capable of hosting world-class events.
The Palacio de Deportes de San Pablo, with a history of hosting European tournaments in handball, swimming, basketball, and a Rhythmic Gymnastics World Championship, adds the Military Fencing World Championship to its roster of major events.
